| Weekend topic: Should you pay twice as much for a Mac? Joe Wilcox of eWeek.com and Apple-Watch.com has a blog style article posted about; Should you pay twice as much for a Mac? I don't want to dwell on it too much as I do work for a competing company. However, I can see where his blog is going in terms of paying twice as much. Earlier this week I was shopping for some components to re-salvage a PC from a local client. In doing so, the client didn't have much to spend, but I thought I would make some suggestions on a retail branded PC. I went to a few store websites and found an HP a6554f. Which features the following; Tower based Desktop chassis PCI-e x16 slot 5GB of DDR2 memory 750GB HD DVD+RW Core2Quad Q6600 @ 2.4Ghz. Vista HP 64bit SP1 All for $699 AC/AR. So, How do I explain or justify to a client that the Mac is worth twice as much? Very interesting blog by Joe Wilcox. |
| VIA quits motherboard chipset business It has been a long time since we heard from the company that brought us the K8T800 series chipset PT880 series chipset for supporting both, Advanced Micro Devices and Intel processors. However, with such a long hiatus from the chipset market, the company is now looking to throw in the towel for the motherboard chipset market. The decision makes sense (in my opinion) as AMD has fully acquired ATi branding and technology as well to form their very own brand of AMD based chipsets & graphics solutions. While, Intel is on track to shift their processors to support integrated Memory controllers on-die to the processor next year. There was a lone competitor named, ULi. Who was later acquired in 2007 by the Nvidia corporation. Whom, also makes a competitive chipsets for both Intel and Advanced Micro Devices. The other chipset competitor, SiS, who once made a deal with RAMBUS to support RDRAM solutions for the Pentium 4 some years ago have been quiet in terms of blockbuster chipset solutions. But, SiS have a deal with Microsoft on the Xbox 360 console to supply media chipsets to the appliance which has a growth of over 10 million units sold. VIA will continue its focus on their embedded 'x86 compatible' processors and chipsets to support it. The blurb is courtesy of CustomPC. |
